Catherine attended the ANZAC Day Memorial Service at the Commonwealth War Cemetery in Hodogaya, Yokohama, on 25 April 2026. Held annually and open to the public, the service brings together members of the Australian and New Zealand communities in Japan, diplomats, military representatives, and local supporters to remember those who served and sacrificed in times of conflict.
This year's ceremony was hosted by the New Zealand Embassy. Ambassador Lucy Duncan delivered remarks, while Deputy Head of Mission Gareth Pidgeon served as Master of Ceremonies. The service provided an opportunity for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude for those who served their countries far from home.
The Commonwealth War Cemetery remains an important place of remembrance. According to the New Zealand War Graves Project, 1,511 New Zealand service personnel are either laid to rest or commemorated there. The annual service serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring ANZAC legacy and the contribution New Zealanders have made throughout history.
